The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), under Government of India, is a stand-alone ministerial agency, responsible for formulating and implementing national policies and programs aimed at enabling the continuous development of the electronics and IT industry. MeitY's focus areas include the development, promotion, and regulation of the electronics and IT industry in India, fostering digital governance, enabling innovation in emerging technologies and promoting cybersecurity initiatives within the country.

Blockchain India Challenge: Blockchain & Web3 Innovation

MeitY aims to conduct a startup challenge for the development of citizen centric innovative solutions using Blockchain and Web3, thereby promoting adoption and usage of Blockchain Technology which provides transparent, tamper resistance storage and audit trail of transactions for future verification. The applicants of the challenge would undergo different levels of scrutiny and 40 applicants would be shortlisted during the ideation to PoC phase for funding, to carry out further development in various stages into minimal viable product and deployment. The challenge will finally identify 10 winners from 10 different Use Case Categories, among the 40 applicants. The total prize money would be distributed to the various stage wise winners during PoC, Minimum Viable Product (MVP), deployment stages of the challenge. Each stage winners would undergo rigorous reviews by expert review committee followed by jury committee, awarding them at each stage who then progress to the next stage of the challenge. Through this initiative, MeitY intends to foster an ecosystem for innovative applications around Web3 and Blockchain, empowering startups to translate their ideas into tangible products, across eminent sectoral themes/ Use Case Categories like Agriculture, Health, Finance, Insurance, Power, Tourism, Education, eGoverance etc.Solutions developed under the hackathon should be Non Crypto based Blockchain & Web3.

National Blockchain Framework (NBF)

National Blockchain Framework (NBF) is an initiative of MeitY to aid large-scale adoption of Blockchain technology and enable trust for applications in the domain of e-Governance. As part of this initiative, NBF Technology Stack has been designed and developed for rapid deployment of Blockchain-based applications with several components such as:

NBFLite Platform
Lightweight

NBFLite is a lightweight platform bundled and offered for rapid prototyping of applications, carrying out research and learning. It supports Hyperledger Fabric with distributed nodes setup on a single machine.

If the Blockchain India Challenge participants use Hyperledger Fabric as a Blockchain platform, NBFLite can be leveraged for rapid prototyping including:
